BAPTISMS

Baptism is often referred to as a Christening.  It is the biblical practice of using the image of water to symbolise the washing of our guilt and sin that we can experience when we commit our lives to Jesus Christ.  We baptise children on the basis that they will be brought up and nurtured in Christian faith.  Baptisms take place in the setting of our normal Sunday services.

If you are thinking of baptism for yourself or your child, and you have a connection with one of our churches, we would be happy to discuss this further.  In baptism, statements of faith are made which we take very seriously, and these would be talked through with you.

Some couples wish to give thanks for the birth of a child, but are not able to make the statements of faith in a baptism in good conscience.  We then offer a service of thanksgiving, where prayers are said for the child, and many find this helpful.
